Supaul district is one of the 38 district of Bihar. The town Supaul is the district's administrative headquarter. The district was separated from the Saharsa district on 14 March 1991.
The district is separated into 4 sub-divisions which are Supaul, Birpur, Triveniganj, and Nirmali. There is 1 Lok Sabha seat and 5 Vidhan Sabha seats in the district. The major language in the area is Hindi.
Since the Vedic period till today, the Supaul district has been a part of Mithilanchal. As per the Hindu Mythology, this area was known as the Matsya Kshetra meaning fishery region. The current-day Supaul district contained the two most established 2 oldest democracies in the Buddhist time specifically Angutaran and Apadnigam.
