Sheohar is an administrative district in the Indian state of Bihar. The distance between Patna and Sheohar is approximately 124.1 km (kilometers). The district headquarters is located in Sheohar and the district is part of Tirhut Division. This district was separated from Sitamarhi district in 1994.
This district was earlier part of Sitamarhi district, the birthplace of Goddess Maa Janki. Maa Janki's main place of birth is Punnaura, a subdivision of Sitamarhi district, about 20 km from Sheohar district.
Punnaura Dham Janki Mandir is one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Goddess Sita. Millions of pilgrims visit this temple every year. Before 1994, Sheohar was just a subdivision of Sitamarhi District.
