Lakhisarai district has an important place in the state of Bihar. The district covers an area of approximately 129,397 hectares.
The district was established on 3 July 1994. Before coming into existence as a new district, Lakhisarai was a subdivision in Munger district. Historians, based on analysis of evidence, established that the place was a revered religious center for Hindus during the Pala dynasty period.
There are a total of 462 villages in Lakhisarai District Panchayat.
The district has only one sub-division, Lakhisarai, which is divided into seven development blocks, namely Lakhisarai, Surajgarh, Barhiya, Halsi, Pipariya, Ramgarh Chowk and Chanan.
